If you happen to be in the market for a 40-inch flat screen TV, or any other TV for that matter, you should know where to get the best LCD TV deals. Let's face it, the quantity of TVs that are available can be mind boggling. You can relax, we can help you.

You will find reviews of every flat screen TV. These reviews are from real customers. It is essential to get critical reviews from people who have actually bought these TV sets instead of getting clearly positive reviews. With so many models and options to choose from, you must know both the pros as well as the cons about each TV.

Knowing which model that you want to buy is only half the battle. You then need to determine where to purchase your new Television from. Why is it important to know where to buy your TV from? You need to deal with a reputable company. Although the chances are improbable, it is possible that there will be a probem with your Television, or for whatever reason, you may not choose to keep it. You need the assurance that you will be able to return the TV and get a full refund or to get store credit for a replacement.

Through our connection with Amazon, you're going to get comprehensive analysis of every TV set, reviews from actual purchasers of the TV, you will have the assurance that you're getting one of the best LCD TV deals for sale anywhere, and maybe most significantly, you will know that you will be dealing with a trusted merchant.

Description

Panasonic TC-P50G25 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Building on its award-winning 2009 Plasma line, Panasonic's 50-inch VIERA TC-P50G25 Plasma HDTV features a new panel with NeoPDP technologies that provide the best balance of black and white under brighter environments while also offering higher energy efficiency. The new NeoPDP Plasma panel also further reduces reflections and creates sharper pictures with higher contrast in brighter environments. This G25 series model provides 1080p resolution, full-time 1080 TV lines of moving picture resolution, and 600Hz Sub-field Drive for superb motion clarity. This and other models in the G25 line offer Panasonic's improved VIERA Cast functionality, which enables you to stream Internet video and audio programming as well as turn this HDTV into a high-definition, wireless video conference center with Skype capabilities (when using the optional Panasonic communication camera and Wi-Fi adapter accessories). You can also play back JPEG images and AVCHD videos stored on SD memory cards and operate a variety of VIERA Link components--from Blu-ray Disc players to digital cameras--through a single remote. Adhering to Panasonic's commitment to the environment, this VIERA model--as well as all 2010 models--features improved power consumption and meets the new, more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements. And you'll get a long Plasma panel life of up to 100,000 hours--more than 30 years of viewing when watched 8 hours a day--before the brightness of the panel decreases to half. Key Features Panasonic's VIERA G25 series Plasma HDTV with streaming content from VIERA Cast partners. VIERA Cast: Enjoy a variety of streaming movies, TV shows, and music, photo slideshows, and home video conferencing with VIERA Cast's assortment of online content--including Amazon Video on Demand, Netflix, Pandora, Twitter, YouTube, and Picasa. VIERA Cast's addition of Skype (requires optional communication camera; model TY-CC10) enables you to connect and communicate through voice and video calls from the comfort of your own living room. This VIERA HDTV includes two USB ports for connecting a keyboard or a Wi-FI LAN adapter (sold separately) as well as an Ethernet port for wired LAN connection. No PC required. VIERA Image Viewer: View full-HD images with the integrated SD card slot, enabling you to view JPEG photos and AVCHD videos captured from your digital camera or camcorder on the big screen. Navigate your images via an easy-to-use thumbnail display, and choose from among five types of background music and five display effects. Plus, messages and memos can be added to photos from a PC to create detailed travelogues and original slideshows with messages. VIERA Link: Allows the interlinked operation of various AV devices--from DVD and Blu-ray Disc players to home theater sound systems to digital cameras and camcorders--using only the VIERA remote control by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable (see pop-up illustration). Game Mode: With Game Mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What's more, VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works with the anti-image retention (wobbling) function, too. NeoPDP: By redesigning the Plasma panel's cell structure and developing an innovative new filter, Panasonic has tripled the luminous efficiency (compared to 2007 models) of its VIERA Plasma HDTVS--resulting in stunningly beautiful images while also reducing power consumption. 1080 Moving Picture Resolution: With 1080 lines of moving picture resolution and integrated NeoPDP technology's high-speed drive performance, the display time for each image frame is shortened to minimize afterimages, making decisive calls in football matches and delicate motions in figure skating performances appear crystal clear. 600Hz Sub-field Drive: 600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology, which converts the motion in each scene into data. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects (see an illustration of 600Hz technology). Infinite Black: The luminous efficiency of this NeoPDP Plasma panel has been improved by reducing the electrical pre-discharge that causes graying has greatly enhanced black gradation. The result is crisp blacks with no graying--even in living rooms with bright, afternoon lighting. And minimizing the electrical pre-discharge helps to both raise contrast and save energy. THX Certified Display: THX reproduces film images as the filmmakers intended them. To receive THX certification, TVs undergo stringent tests to determine, for example, whether the exact same brightness and color are displayed at all screen locations, and whether black levels satisfy standard criteria. Key Specifications Series: G25 Screen type: Plasma Screen size: 50 inches Native resolution: 1920 x 1080 pixels Contrast ratio: Infinite Black with 5,000,000:1 native/dynamic contrast Shades of gradation: 6,144 equivalent HDTV display capability: 1080p, 1080i, 720p EDTV display capability: 480p Speakers: 2 full range, 20W total power; surround sound capabilities Image viewer: AVCHD, MPEG2, JPEG compatibility Aspect control: Normal, Zoom, Full, Just, H-fill for TV/AV modes 4:3, Full for PC mode Optional wall-mounting bracket: TY-WK4P1RW Multi-lingual menu: English/Spanish/French Energy Star qualified: Yes Connections HDMI: 3 (1 side) Component (Y, PB, PR): 2; each with audio input Composite A/V: 2 (1 side); each with audio input Ethernet: 1 USB: 2 PC input (15-pin, D-Sub): 1 Digital audio output: 1 Dimensions TV with stand: 48 x 31.9 x 13.2 inches (WxHxD); 63.9 pounds TV without stand: 48 x 30.3 x 3.5 inches (WxHxD); 57.3 pounds What size TV should you get? With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. Minimum size = Viewing distance/3 Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

SUPERIOR PICTURE QUALITY, INCREDIBLY REALISTIC COLOR REPRODUCTION
If you are like me, you put a lot of research into a expensive purchase like a flat screen television, especially since it is something you plan to use for several years. I chose the Panasonic G25 after months of research trying to determine which was "better", LCD or Plasma, while also investigating which brands and models were the best performers.

What's in the box?
*	The  50" TV
*	Swivel  stand
*	Lighted remote, including batteries
*	Detailed Instruction manual
*	Quick Start Guide

I purchased this TV as our main television in our family room. I own two other flat screens, both LCD and both from Panasonic, 32" and 42".

Set up is a breeze. The box is designed to be easily opened by releasing four plastic clips built onto the box. This allows the top (most of the box) to be lifted of the TV, while the TV remains secure and stationary in the lower part of the box. The included swivel stand comes in two pieces and is easily assembled with a few included screws. If you use this stand, you simply have to lower the TV onto the stand. This can be done vertically without laying the screen down on its face, since the design of the TV mounting components are flush with the stand. Some TVs require you to place the TV in a horizontal position to mount it to their stand. You possibly could do this assembly alone, as the TV is not very heavy, but due to sheer size, it is extremely prudent to have someone help you.

Many professional reviews will advise you to beware of plasma "burn in" of images, or using plasma in a brightly lit room. I worried about these two things constantly during my research.

Panasonic's manual does advise you not to leave a 4:3 image, or any still image on the screen on the screen for very long periods as it can contribute to some burn in. But in general, even if you watch 4:3 mode all day long, the TV has a couple of features which helps protect its image, including orbiting pixel technology and a scrolling bar which can be run across the screen to help cleanse it. I have watched a good deal of 4:3 format on this TV and have not had any issues whatsoever. The orbiting technology slightly moves pixels about, undetectable to the human eye, which really minimizes the chance of any burn in.

As far as a bright room, don't worry! My family room is decent size, and has a cathedral ceiling with a skylight, plus a southern wall that is almost all window and a sliding door on the opposite wall. So the room has lots of light. I can watch the TV during the brightest time of day without any loss of quality or viewing ability. The anti-glare feature of the screen reduces the natural reflective characteristics of glass down to practically nil.

I tend to watch most programming on the TV's THX mode. This will give you a somewhat less bright display than the G25's "Standard" or "Vivid" mode or compared to most LCDs, but personally I am looking for the most accurate, pleasing display, not simply "the brightest". If you do prefer a very bright display, the TV's numerous picture settings can easily give you a bright display.

I am a huge Panasonic fan, and that did factor into my choice of TV. I find Panasonic typically gives you high quality at a reasonable price.

As for price, you will spend several hundreds of dollars more for an LCD of comparable size and quality. Some better quality LCDs in this size range will cost double what the G25 sells for.

Most of the features on the TV and remote are intuitive and the menu offers general explanations of the purpose of each setting. The remote itself is well laid out and easy to navigate, although this was not very important to me since I am using my FIOS remote for most typical functions.

There are four HDMI ports on the TV, as well as RCA and component connections and coax input. There is also a PC port as well as two USB ports. The lone port type absent is S-Video. While S-Video is passé, if you have a DVD player that's a few years old, you might be using S-Video to connect to your TV, so be prepared to upgrade or switch cable types if need be.

The TV can also be networked either by Ethernet cable or wireless adapter. You must use Panasonic's adapter if you choose the wireless route, which is one of the few cons on this product. Compatibility with common wifi adapters would have been nice, since the Panasonic wifi adapter is over-priced. Although Panasonic confirmed you must use their adapter, I tried a couple of others any way, but the TV did not detect them. If you network the Tv you can make use of numerous features like direct connection to several services (some of which require a subscription or fee). Examples are Amazon Video on Demand (cost associated), YouTube (free), Pandora (free), Twitter (free, and a few others.

A couple of typical complaints about Panasonic TVs are the sound quality, and starting with the G series from 2009, the black levels displayed on the screen becoming lighter after several hundred hours of use. The sound is decent on the TV, and many people will probably cutover to their home theater for audio when playing DVDs or music-related TV programming anyway. I don't believe the concerns over the black levels are a huge issue. That is just my opinion; I am neither an expert nor any type of engineer. At the end of the day, everything I have read seems to indicate that the resulting black levels from Panasonic's firmware still leaves the display at a better black level than the competing Samsung products, so .........

Aside from being limited to Panasonic's wifi adapter, about the worst thing I can say about the G25 is that for the price, Panasonic could include some sort of cleaning cloth for the screen, which is typical even on their own lower end LCDs.

Overall, this television has astounding picture quality and realistic reproduction which is superior to any LCD or LED TV I've seen. For the price, you cannot go wrong or find a better flat screen HD TV.

NOTE:
If you are a making your first flat screen, HD television purchase, please remember that no matter what brand or type you buy, standard display will not be as sharp as high definition programming, and the larger the screen the more noticeable that is.

Blows LCD away
This pannasonic G25 is amazing. Clear, Crisp Picture. Colors are amazing, unlike an LCD. You never would know the difference unless you saw a plasma. Unfortunatly plasmas got a bad rap years ago and people shy away from them. This model (as do others including samsung) have built in image retention elimination devices. Follow the break in for the first 100 hours and you have nothing to worry about. The sound levels arent bad, you probably have a surround system anyways so it dont matter. This picture gets better and better as it breaks in. All store demos are pretty crappy and usually the plasmas are off to the side. If stores used a good setup and dialed in the sets its unbelievable how many they would sell, but most people drift to the big bright LCD or LED. This tv is bright and colors are unmatched. Hockey games and fast paced sports are crap on lcd, but on plasma when the hockey players stop, you can see every sliver of ice fly through the air. Plasmas are less money and better picture the an lcd, why buy an lcd? I looked at the samsung, however they have a realllly bad rep for buzzing. Get it, dial in your settings and you too will be blown away.

Excellent Buy
Get the 50 inch version or bigger, it's not too large. :P Put this in THX mode and it is great. The construction is excellent, picture quality is the best I've seen on any TV, menu is very navigable, and the remote control is perfectly adequate. Viera Cast is an awesome feature of this TV. While they still have not added Netflix, the rest of the features are great. Pandora is an awesome service for those interested in music. Amazon video on demand has a large selection and video quality is high(a bit expensive though). YouTube unfortunately defaults to 360p, even if the video has 480p, 720p, or 1080p available. There is no way to manually force it to a better video mode. The speakers are good, but at times it is downright difficult to understand what people are saying. I found that standard definition channels look worse on this TV than on a SD television(maybe this is to be expected, but I wasn't to this extent). A few SD channels are really really bad, to the point of being almost unwatchable(tennis channel). No 3.55mm headphone connection. In addition, there is no DVI connection either(only resolution limited VGA port). Don't buy an LCD or LED because you are concerned about this burning in. Burn-in(especially past the first 100 hours) has been made mostly irrelevant with recent plasma developments. However, I did do about 72 hours of break-in slides(from avsforum) to age the pixels evenly, not sure if it was really necessary but I did it anyways. Do NOT buy the expensive Panasonic wireless adapter. If your wireless router is too far from the TV to run a cable, buy a cheap DD-WRT compatible router and install the aforementioned firmware on it. You can then put it into client bridge mode and it essentially becomes a wireless adapter. I installed DD-WRT standard version 13525 on a $35 ASUS WL-520GU. This worked just fine with the TV. Nevertheless, make sure when the TV arrives you have an HDMI cable/flashlight ready to verify there are no defects before signing for it. If possible, watch to make sure that when the delivery person brings it out of the van, it has not been transported facing down(if so, reject it). The delivery guy is usually in a rush, so don't be pressured into signing before you are confident you have inspected it sufficiently.

Pros:
-Great overall performance and value, no sacrifices
-Black levels and colors excellent(THX), not overbright
-Viera Cast(with future updates it has great potential)
-SD card/Thumb-drive/keyboard capable

Cons:
-SD seems to look worse on this than on a SD television
-Sound quality could have been better
-No 3.5mm audio or DVI connection
-Netflix not available yet/YouTube needs improvement

This TV is awesome. Purchased a Vizio 42' 120 LCD from Costco about 1.5 years ago. There is no comparison between the two. The picture on the Panasonic is one of the best I have ever seen. It took me all of five minutes to get it set up once out the box. If you are trying to decide between the Samsung plasma and the Panasonic plasma. You cannot go wrong with this the G25 from the Amazon store. I did a ton of research before making this purchase. Alot of the information I found was of people complaining of buzzing and set-up issues. Have played both Blu-Ray and PS3 games and the quality is excellent. Another thing I considered was the price. Not only was it lower on Amazon than local retailers it was shipped free because of my annual prime membership. In addition I also purchased the warranty for four years and it was half the price of retailers.

Now that I own a plasma from Panasonic my family and I will never buy LCD again. If you have kids the LCD was not made for them. The screens are made cheap and will damage very easily. There is a great video on YouTube that shows the durability of the Panasonic plasma. Now that mine has come I can see the difference.

The last thing I would recommend is buy from the comapnies who have been doing this for more than 10 years. That was advice given to me by a client in the electronics business for more than 25 years. When we were talking and I was asking for his advice his stated that the LCD's
are still years behide what a plasma can do today. Now I can see what he means. Hope this helps.

Great picture quality and superb bang for th buck!!!
by Ravi K Yalamarthy from Atlanta, GA on 2010-08-07
Got this TV only a week back. So, treat this as my initial review/impression. Firstly, the TV looks gorgeous, all black and nice bezel. It has decent weight, but nothing like LED-LCD TV. But I was able to move/lift it alone. My wife had to help me when putting on to the stand.

Let's talk about the topics which are common concerns and see if it helps you make your decision easy -

SD content - For first few days, we didn't had HD transmission, so watched SD content, and let me tell you, it looks awe full. It is watchable but the expectation is so high from all the reviews, you feel bumped. But understand it is SD content, not meant to be projected to a 50" screen. So I am not that worried.

THX mode - I kept the resolution/brightness/sharpness at 50 (per online forum recommendations) and planning to keep it for one more week. Also I am watching in THX mode. Only in THX mode colors seem natural (at least for me), some of you may find it dull/dim colors, take a look at calibration setting from CNet, it might be helpful or increase brightness.

Break-in slides - Even though I consider I am techie enough to understand electronics, I ran break-in slides for 50 odd hours, just to make sure I have a good night sleep, and not think about it.

Buzzing sound - Only if you stick you head to the back of the TV and keep everything on mute and stop any external noise, you will hear a slight buzz. It is so faint, that I would consider it non-existence. Only because there is so much buzz about buzzing I am able to notice it, otherwise, I may not have noticed the sound. Depending on brightness, you might hear a faint buzz from front (mine is still only 100+ hours old), like from 2 inches. I don't hear any buzz, from more than a foot, even there is no other sound/noise. Bottom line, I consider there is no buzz and all is well.

Elegance, beauty and great picture quality - Just hooked up and enabled HD content. Oh my gosh, what can I say. Watched Food Network, ESPN and some other channels. I am amazed. I was expecting this from all the other reviews, but it is something that can't be explained, you have to feel it. Again, I am not exaggerating, this is just my experience. So don't wait any more, if you're into market around this TV segment (50" or LCD vs Plasma), this is the best TV. PRICE is great, it might come lower around Thanksgiving, but heck with it, I waited already around a year to jump in (for various reasons).

At last, People who already have this TV, I know you're having fun with your toy. Others who are looking/thinking about this TV, jump in, you won't be disappointed, esp with a seller like amazon. I'll be happy to answer any other specific questions. Happy TViewing.

This t.v. was purchased about a week ago and I love it. It fits perfectly in our living room. The tv has excellent 1080p resolution. That coupled with the deep blacks and quick response time makes my 360 look spectacular. The game mode does seem to improve my gaming experience as well. For the price, this tv really cannot be beat. I've seen other reviews discussing that the sound and 60 hz response time are downfalls...First of all, the 60 hz is perfectly fine unless you're a videophile. It's hardly noticeable to most - and as for the sound - it is RARE that tvs put out great sound. The sound is fine. It sounds like a tv. The only genuine negative mark I can find with it to this point is that the remote really needs to be pointed right at the sensor to function properly which is a little annoying. Still, this is a GREAT value. If you're on the fence, allow me to shove you over...get this set!!! Great job, Toshiba.

by Toophless from Triad, NC on 2009-01-20
Although I actually have the Costco version 40RV52U. They seem to be the same model.

Tuner: I'm very pleased to find that the tuner can bring in several digital HD channels off of my very basic ($[...] / month for 13 channels) analogue cable connection without any extra boxes, antennas or subscription fees.

Picture: I get all the local channels in either 720p or 1080i and they look great. The inauguration looked fantastic and I can't wait to watch the superbowl in HD from my own couch. SD channels are fine. 4:3 pictures are the equivalent of a 32.5" CRT so replacing our 27" was win-win. Lowering the sharpness helps SD. Upconverted DVDs and Netflix (both via XBox 360) look great. I'm sure a BlueRay player will be fantastic.

Sound: Great for TV speakers. I don't need the stereo on unless I want the big sound. The RCA output on the back is variable so you can set the stereo at a good volume and control it all with the TV remote.

Settings: They are straight forward and probably layman friendly, though I'd like a little more control over some features. I'd like to be able to disable the SmartSound feature during gaming example.

Remote: Not great. It needs to be aimed a lot more precisely than any of my other remotes. It is prone to double taps (jumping over settings in the menu / channels in the guide etc...) The keypress timing seems to be set too fast. Even though it is a "universal" remote (quotes used because it can't be programmed to my audio system) I'll probably replace it with the Harmony designed for the XBox 360.

Gaming with an XBox 360 and a Wii:

Audio: There is an issue with the 360's audio via the HDMI cable BUT I understand from a Microsoft friend that there is already a fix in Beta to resolve the issue. The SmartSound feature (to keep commercials from blasting) cuts the volume in video games sonmetimes so I have it wired directly to the stereo anyway.

Video: I've only had one moment during a particulary bright scene in Rock Band 2 which produced an odd slow-down effect. I changed a video mode to Gaming and haven't noticed it since. Fast paced FPS and driving games are smooth. The Wii is only 420p of course but Wii Tennis is a lot more fun in widescreen.

Other: There are enough inputs and outputs to keep me happy for a long time. It's light and easy to move around. The base is a little flimsy for my taste but not a concern. The shiny frame is not noticable though it might be if you have it in a bright or sunny room. I like that you can turn the backlight off behind the "Toshiba" nameplate on the front of the unit. Left side controls are easy to access and simple to memorize.

If I could remove 1/2 a star for the remote I would, otherwise it's a very nice TV, especially at the $[...] price point.

#################

1 month down the road: XBox 360 HDMI audio issues have been resolved by microsoft, but new HDMI issues have come up. The HDMI connection drops occasionally. Switching to another source and back resolves it, usualy until the next time I use the TV. Seems to be more prevalent while watching Netflix or a DVD and almost never does it during a game. Component inputs seem fine.

I think I'll swap it at Costco for a new one. If it continues I'll be getting another brand.

##############################

PROBLEM SOLVED! The replacement has no issues at all. I just had a unit with flaky HDMI inputs. I've played a few hours of XBox 360, watched several episodes of 30 Rock through Netflix and watched a couple of movies witohut any cut-outs. Perfect!

I bought this as my first HDTV and so far I am very satisfied. The picture quality through regular cable(480i as it says) is not that good, but I mainly bought for my 360. Through the component cables the the quality while playing games is very good, but there are some things I notice. Now through the HDMI, the picture is excellent! There is a small problem though, the Xbox's NXE update doesn't allow sound to go through the cable. There are some temporary solutions like taking out the hard drive while off then plugging it in when the system is on every single time you want to play. This problem is not Toshiba's fault as other TV's from different brands are having this problem, too. MS is working on a fix as reported on other forums and sites though. Hopefully, they get it fixed quick because I love how the games look on this TV.

I originally wanted the Sharp Aquos 32" 1080p TV but after seeing this TV and price I couldn't pass it up. And I'm very glad I didn't pass it up.

I received my LN40B750 this past Friday and have now had all weekend to kick the tires and be amazed at its capabilities. I had already submitted a review, but not sure where it went.

As I had stated in my now missing review, I am very impressed with this set's image quality and ease of use. Setup was pretty easy and only required me to fasten 4 screws to mount and lock the base to the bottom of the set. Connected the optical out to my receiver (Yamama RX-V750) and ran my DVD player's component cables right into the set. Now, I can finally enjoy progressive scan mode. What a HUGE difference that made! One thing I have to address is a negative comment made by another person who was complaining of stereo output from the optical out jack, instead of 5.1 surround sound. This is 100% contingent on what the broadcaster is pushing out, NOT the TV. Yes Jimmy, the evening news ONLY needs to be in plain vanilla stereo, not 5.1 surround sound. I can confirm that it does push out L/R stereo on the evening news and certain other broadcasts. Some broadcasts caused only my center channel to push out audio while others gave me L/C/R output so don't blame Samsung at all if you're getting stereo or 3-channel output. Watching ZOOM last night made all 5.1 channels on my receiver light up like a Christmas tree. I am so thrilled to watch some of my favorite shows in 5.1 now.

So, one of the main reasons I bought this was because of the 240Hz processing and 2ms response time, and, on my wife's recommendation, the panel design. 240Hz processing it is both neat and surreal. Other reviewers have stated that it give the picture a sort of Soap Opera-like effect but I would have to say no to this assessment. When I think of Soap Opera, I think of very apparent action happening on a stage/set with poor or harsh lighting and shadows: sort of campy. I can see where people liken it to that but it's not quite accurate. When enabled and set to its "Standard" mode, 240Hz processing makes certain fast-moving scenes seem very fluid, almost as if it were a live feed/broadcast not too dissimilar to reality TV. It gives motion a more smooth appearance as it is being displayed on screen. When I turned this Friday's episode of Numb3rs on, there was a bus chase scene that looked like it was coming from a live TV broadcast. Turning off 240Hz processing made it seem like "produced" TV does. I am now convinced and a convert to what 240Hz processing can do for TV. I decided to try it out on a DVD: Princess Mononoke. Wow! Some scenes looked like real-time 3D without 3D glasses. I am impressed. It takes a bit of getting used to but even my wife commented on how 3D some scenes appeared and how almost TOO real it makes the image look. She admits she is now addicted to this set. Also, I happened to turn the channel to see an old episode of 1960s Batman and it looked like a live broadcast! Neat but a bit weird. Overall, I think 240Hz processing is just an augmentation to what is already there.

I also have to discuss blockiness with certain scenes and fast moving action: I have thus far encountered NONE. When I have watched football or some other fast-moving stuff on other people LCD panels, all I saw was blocks and digital artifacting and that always turned me off to LCD. I get none of that with this set so far. I put on a baseball game, Olympic re-run highlights, smooth as silk. Not sure if it's because I am running RG6 cabling throughout my house but I am here to attest that the blockiness I hate on LCDs is not present on this set. A+ for that Samsung.

I was also worried about screen glare and reflection with this set as it DOES come with Ultra Clear Panel. I have a large window that faces opposite the set and when off, I can see a reflection. BUT! When the set it on, it's all business and NO glare. Try as I might, I see no glare or reflection. That is impressive. Kudos to Samsung (and the 150000:1 contrast probably helps too!).

The Touch of Grey is cool, no more illuminated border. I was also happy to play around with the widgets and other little built-in goodies. The built-in Ethernet jacks lets you plug it into a router or whatever to perform firmware updates and download new stuff to the widgets section. My wife LOVES the Art widget that displays Monet images to serene piano music. Some think this is gimmicky stuff, I think it's a GREAT example of convergence. A+ to Samsung for this stuff. I was also pleased to receive the full LN40B750 manual with my set. I wonder if people were upset by Samsung going green and putting the manual on a USB stick and built-in to the TV? I think it's smart as opposed to trying to dig up where the manual went.

My only gripe with the set is not being able to cycle through the inputs (Video 1, Video 2, Component 1, HDMI 1, etc.) by just depressing the button. While the TV's GUI menu system is nice, I hate using a GUI to navigate to the input I want to use. I'm old-school and like to cycle through the inputs. It would be nice if changing input methods (GUI versus multiple button depressions) was an option in the settings somewhere. The remote is pretty standard and sleek and doesn't have the dial that I have heard so many complain about. It may be that Samsung went back a bit and just kept things simple with a standard button layout you'd find on most any TV remote. On a scale of 1-10, this set is a solid 9.5 for me. You would be happy with its many options. 240Hz may not be for everyone but it is cool in my book. If you are considering the LN40B650, you will be happy spending the extra $ on this set for the 2ms response time and 240Hz processing.

Just a couple things I forgot to mention in the original review. Although Samsung's web page says there are no USB ports, mine has two on the right side labeled USB 1 (HDD) and USB 2. It IS an Ultra Clear Panel but Samsung's page says it is not. It was printed right on the box. Although the Samsung firmware upgrade guide says to download and extract firmware to a USB drive and plug it into the back of the TV, there is no USB on the back of the TV, only the right side. Someone asked if the remote is backlit and yes, it is. There's a button on the top of the remote that illuminates the buttons in the dark.

UPDATE: 8/3/2009

After downloading and installing the 1008 firmware update (my model shipped with the 1006 version), I feel the TV is a bit more responsive for channel switching. The widgets and goodies load up a bit faster too. I cannot find any concrete info on what the new firmware contains. Updating to the new firmware does allow you to revert back to the old firmware in the TV setup. That's VERY important in case of a firmware bug. Way to go Samsung! I will update this review if any future firmware updates improve this already great TV.

UPDATE: 9/8/2009

TV is still working great. I have to add that I do not experience the so called "blue-ish blacks" that some others have reported. I have properly calibrated my contrast and brightness levels so I get deep blacks on many of the shows I watch. Also, I have to add that when I did a channel scan, the NTSC tuner was still grabbing things out there. It picked up a couple of music channels broadcasting over NTSC so that was kind of a surprise. I guess the NTSC and ATSC tuners work in tandem.

UPDATE: 9/18/2009
Today I updated the firmware to revision 1011 and a few new features were added. The "HD Conection Guide" is new which shows you the inputs and connections. And there is a menu item called "Contact Samsung" which has web site info and phone numbers along with model code and software version. Sadly, this firmware erases all your settings so make sure and write them down before you update!

UPDATE: 9/22/2009
On 9/18 I updated to 1011 firmware via the Internet. I just went to the Samsung web site and saw that 1012.3 is available. Going to update and see what new stuff got added or fixed.

UPDATE: 9/25/2009
I have to say that when I updated to the 1011 firmware, I felt that the image quality somehow suffered or was reduced because I noticed a lot of jaggies and such when material was 480i, 720p, and sometimes 1080i material, whereas it used to be smooth or fairly sharp in general. After the update to 1012.3 firmware, I feel like the picture has returned to being very sharp all around no matter what the source material. Seems channel switching is also a tad bit faster with the 1012.3 update. It also didn't reset my settings to factory default which is nice. I've written my settings down just in case. Glad Samsung continues to fine tune the performance of this TV. Keep it coming.

UPDATE: 10/14/2009: I successfully played an XVid movie using Media Play and it functions *almost* like a TiVo---not that I own one but have seen them. Very cool! I didn't realize it but there are firmware release notes! Never noticed they were there before but if you visit Samsung's site and find your model TV, click Support &amp;amp; Downloads, click Firmware, and then click the "Upgrade File" link under the description, it tells you what's been fixed.

For 1012.3:

a. This Firmware will support some strange resolution or Codec.
. Resolution : DTV 320 x 240
. Codec : MPEG2 - TS (on Media Play)
b. Samsung launches new widgets for Internet@TV
. Blockbuster on Demand, Rally Cast, Ebay, and many more. To get more information, visit ''News &amp;amp; Alerts'' on [...]
c. Add some menu on Media Play
. ''Repeat'' Menu (on Media Play)
d. This Firmware will correct the following phenomenons some units may experience.
. When viewing 1080i formatted signals through the Component Input, the picture is intermittently jumping up and down.
. Intermittent No Sound on 1080p when connecting with some Unit through HDMI.
. When viewing 720p or 1080i formatted signals through the Component Input, the picture is intermittently flickering.
. When viewing some resolution (720 x 1440i) signals with Set-Top Box, ''Not Supported Message'' may appear on the screen.

UPDATE: 10/16/2009: Updated to firmware 1013 today via Internet. No info about it yet on Samsung's site. Will update if they post release notes.

UPDATE: 12/4/2009: Updated to firmware 1016 today via Internet. No info about it yet on Samsung's site. Will update if they post release notes.

UPDATE: 1/12/2010: It seems all traces of the LN40B750 have been pulled from Samsung's site. I was there last week and today gone. WTF? If you type in the keyword LN40B750 in the site search it down show a link to the Downloads section where you can find manuals and such. Not good Samsung, not good.

UPDATE: 1/21/2010: Updated to firmware 1017 today via Internet. No info about it yet on Samsung's site. Will update if they post release notes.

UPDATE: 2/1/2010: Ok, in my original review I stated that glare was not a problem. In my case, this was in mid July and my red maple was providing shade behind my West-facing window so noon and setting sun were not so bad. Being that it is now midwinter and the tree is bare, I had the experience of the setting sun full on in my TV room and yes, there was glare IF I sat perpendicular to BOTH the TV and the window. However, when I sat a few feet to either side, the TV was more bright enough to overpower ANY glare (and I have my contrast and brightness turned much lower than factory settings). To be fair, if there is REALLY bright light, yes you may experience glare. The 32" Sony that this TV replaced was unwatchable for us during this time of the year or at least until the sun set. Still very impressive.

UPDATE: 2/8/2010: Since the new Blu-Ray 3D standard (via HDMI 1.4) will be here shortly in the form of the Samsung BD-C6900 (HDMI 1.4!), you'll want to know that Blu-Ray 3D REQUIRES a TV with, supposedly, a minimum of 120Hz processing for it to work but I read it was 240Hz. Can't find the article now though. So even though the LN40B750 is HDMI 1.3 compliant and true Blu-Ray 3D requires HDMI 1.4, it WILL work with HDMI 1.3 but at 1080i (from what I can tell (high quality Category 2 cables are also a requirement)). Seems most Blu-Ray 2.0 players, if firmware upgradable, can support Blu-Ray 3D but at the HDMI 1.3 spec level. Can't remember if response time helps though. The Samsung 3D Blu-Ray player is right around the corner and I would not be surprised if Avatar 3D (Director's Cut?) comes out around the same time. Again, 100% glad I spent a few extra dollars on my set to be able to take advantage of this new standard! After all the years of 3D failing on lo-def analog TV, I think today's HD TVs will finally get us over the hump. To be continued...

UPDATE: 3/9/2010: In response to a negative review of this TV with respect to audio sync issues, I for one have never experienced this issue and in all fairness, who knows what the person who wrote that comment had in terms of connections and hardware. The reviewer also references the A750 series, not B750 and this alleged audio sync would have been MUCH more widely reported. I have not heard of any such problem. It's unclear if the person tried to update their firmware either.

UPDATE: 4/12/2010: Haven't seen any firmware updates in a few months. I hope Samsung hasn't stopped supporting this awesome set. You know why? Because last night I discovered yet ANOTHER amazing thing about this TV. I had been waiting for months to see a foreign film by a director I love and it was recently released but not subtitled in English. I found the subtitles online in the form of an SRT file. On a whim, I named the subtitle file and the movie file the same thing (minus the extension of course) and copied them to my USB drive and plugged it in to the TV. Guess what? I got to watch the movie and the subtitles were recognized and worked PERFECTLY. THAT is AMAZING! I wish I could give 6 stars because now I no longer have to waste blank DVDs! Yet another A+ to you Samsung.

UPDATE: 8/3/2010: I was very disappointed to see some idiot give the set a negative review because it didn't have Netflix built into it. Jeez, do research much?

UPDATE: 8/28/2010 #2: Looks like firmware 1018 added MKV support. FINALLY! Another reason why this TV rocks, rocks, rock!

Excellent Picture, No red bezel!
Wow! This panel is really amazing. I have been researching sets for several months. It came down to the Sony XBR6 and the Samsung A650. Quite frankly I loved the Samsung picture but could not really accept the red "Touch of Color" bezels... just a personal choice I guess. Anyways, I purchased the Sony a few weeks ago on clearance and thought I was getting a great deal. Unfortunately the picture on the Sony was a real let down. It seemed dull and dim (even after adjusting the settings several times per different recommendations online and turning off the auto-dimming setting). My old DLP set even seemed crisper when I compared them side by side which was just not acceptable. Perhaps I got a bunk panel but after googling "dim XBR6" it seems like several people noticed the same thing I did.

I started doing more research and noticed that Amazon started carrying this television within the last week or two. Samsung must have caught on that they were losing sales due to their red color fetish as this panel is a beautiful dark shade of gray. Anyways, the XBR was returned and this panel replaced it. It's as clean crisp and clear as you could imagine from a non LED backlit panel. Its like night and day between this set and the Sony. The action is clear and crisp and the picture is just impressive. I highly recommend this panel, it is absolutely the clearest picture around without paying the huge premium for an LED set. You will not regret going with this TV. The only negative I would mention is that the panel is fairly reflective compared to the Sony. Definitely not an issue when the set is on but when turned off its definitely noticable.

A very good LCD set, with some useless extras
I shopped around quite a bit before deciding on this set, and now that it's in the house, I would most certainly purchase again. I'll keep this short and sweet:

THE GOOD

- Absolutely stunning picture quality, with a wide array of picture adjustment options. As with any LCD/Plasma, though, be prepared to spend some time adjusting these settings depending on input source, room conditions, and personal preference.

- User menu is well organized, easy to understand, and overall responds quickly to input commands.

- The set itself is very attractive. The glossy black finish and charcoal grey ToC compliment my other equipment nicely - much more appealing than the red ToC found on other Samsung sets. Also, the stand allows the TV to rotate, which is a plus.

- The 240 Hz refresh rate is nice, but not as big of an improvement as 120 Hz is over 60 Hz.

THE BAD

- Almost useless network connectivity. With the notable exception of being able to connect to the internet for product updates and support, I find few good things to say about Samsung's networking interface. Being able to view pictures/listen to music/watch movies over a home network is nice, but having this capability built into a TV set is redundant at present. In my case, I have my computer connected through a long DVI -> HDMI cable, so using Samsung's clunky networking interface to access a limited amount of my media is pointless. Several other companies have this same technology in their TV sets, but it seems not a one of them has figured out how to implement a truly useful product for accessing media content on a home network (largely due to paranoia over content rights). Ho hum.

- Internet widgets are slow. As there exist other ways of accessing the same content/services that aren't nearly as slow, I can't see really using them. Good idea, poor execution....but could get better in time through firmware updates.

As I stated earlier, I would definitely purchase this set again. I did travel to my local BB to compare, and to my eye, I found the LNB750 series a cut above most of the others on display. I did not have high expectations for the networking capabilities, and unfortunately you are paying for it (most other similar Samsung series seem to have the same networking capabilities, so no luck there). It is somewhat irksome to have to pay for features that are either useless or poorly designed, but the picture quality and overall performance of the LN40B750 make it a worthy purchase.

Fantastic TV
by DeeJaye6 from Maryland, USA on 2009-09-22
I researched HD TVs for several months before finally deciding on the LN40B750, and I am very, very glad that I waited and got such a good television. Many factors went into this decision:

1. The TV is for my bedroom, so I didn't want one larger than 40".
   - This requirement took the Samsung LED 240Hz TVs out of the running, since they only offer those in 46" and 55" at this time

2. I had gone to many, many retail stores to see the screens with my own eyes. I went to so many stores because one store may have the Sony set up to be superior while another might favor the Vizio, while yet a third may favor Samsung. I found the Samsung to have a very clear, crisp picture very comparable to the Sony, but with a lower price point. I also found the Samsung to have a better picture than the Visio. (I also preferred the layout of Samsung's remote over that of the Visio.)

3. I wanted a 1080P, 240Hz, 100K+:1 contrast ratio with lots of HDMI and component inputs.

The LN40B750 hit the money on all marks. It is a very pretty TV, with a shiny, easy-to-clean finish (it even comes with a micro-fiber cleaning cloth), and a gorgeous stand, if you don't want to drill holes in your wall. The 240Hz picture (as others have said) takes a little getting used to. I tuned into USA HD once I had the TV on the stand I bought and hooked it up to my FiOS box and started watching "U-571" in HD. Funny thing: it didn't look right. In fact, it looked as if someone was putting on a live production of the movie. Everything was so crisp and clear, and the movements were so smooth, the entire movie ended up looking as if it were live! Two days later, I visited my father who has an older Sony HD TV (60Hz) and he put his HDDVD copy of U-571 in for me to compare. There was no comparison. As clear as his TV is, it didn't hold a candle to the quality of the picture on the Samsung.

The menus are very, very easy to follow and comprehend. I do not care for the melody the TV makes when I turn it on or off, nor did I want that little light on the bottom to be on while I watch TV. Both were incredibly easy to disable. It is also child's play to bring up the menu for adjusting the video settings such as judder, though I have not yet found reason to adjust them.

So far, I have watched several HD movies, 4 football games in HD, and about a dozen shows filmed in HD. Only the CBS HD broadcast gave me any reason to complain, and I understand that is because of their 1080i cameras. Fox, NBC, and ESPN apparently all use 720P cameras which are vastly superior. (Every time CBS switched to their on-the-field cameras, the entire picture ended up artifacted for a few seconds. Also, whereas I could have counted the blades of grass on the field on the other three channels, CBS' picture was too fuzzy to make out that kind of detail.)

Lastly are the inputs. Ho-lee! *Four* HDMI inputs (three on the back, one on the right side as you face the TV)!! Four! Also, two dedicated component inputs, 1 dedicated composite input, and 1 component/composite input! Add to that the RF and PC (VGA) inputs, and its ability to display pics or videos off a USB drive and there is nothing you cannot play on this TV!

I will update this review later after I have hooked up my X-Box 360 and tried out some of the 1080P games, and after I get a wireless LAN antenna and update the TV.

Oh, one last point: I'd read in a few reviews here about the manual coming on a flash drive. Well, I bought my TV directly from Amazon (not a third party) and I got an actual book for my manual. Not sure what to make of that.

===UPDATE - 2 December 2009===

Okay! The X-Box 360 cinches it! It is be-a-utiful! The 1080p is evident in everything I do on the system that supports that resolution, from the menus to simple games like "Castle Crashers," to more complex games like Forza Motorsports. Clean, crisp, and smoooooth!

I also have purchased a Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-ray player. This was a good purchase to go with the TV, as the remote for the player (of course) also works on the TV, and the BD-Wise enables the TV to automatically detect that the BD has turned on, and it switches the input! Niiice! The TV also turns on automatically if I turn on the BD. The picture is out of this world, I don't mind telling you! (I'll probably post a review of the player on that unit's page in a few weeks.)

Now, I have noticed that the reflective screen will show *very* bright lights even with the TV on, but they have to be pretty darn bright. Even then, it's not too bad. I also found out that the video processor on this TV is a 10-bit processor, which is fairly good. It's not the best one out there, but then again, I'm not seeing any pixelization aside from the NFL on CBS, so I'm not sure if the 14-bit TVs I've read about are all that much better or not. I leave it to you to decide that. I'm happy with the LN40B750, myself, and I hope this review has helped you!

===UPDATE - 5 March 2010===
Still loving the TV, but I have discovered one negative and I'm hoping Samsung will provide a way to turn this off. The screen auto-dims on dark scenes, presumably to get the super blacks that LED sets give. Where this falls short is when I'm watching a show or a movie with a dark scene (say, "Planet Earth" showing a cave scene). Invariably, the TV drops the brightness, and now I can't even see what the show is trying to show me.

I wish there were an option to turn this off. I've had techs out to my house twice regarding this issue, and they were kind enough to humor me and replace my main board, and the problem is still there.

So, in the middle of this disappointment, I find that Samsung's customer service is truly great!

Five stars for this great unit! Samsung hit another winner with this product. Picture perfect, easy set up and really decent sound. Easy to use lighted remote. No motion worries with the latest 240hz setup.
Grey touch of color is very attractive. Swivel base works great for viewing at different locations in my family room with no problems viewing at any angle. No problems with screen reflections either.
Menus are easy to walk through for any user adjustments.
I also purchased and installed the wireless USB device. Easy to install and set up also.
I would highly recommend this set to anyone.

Time for an upgrade!
by Paul Pacis from SoCal on 2010-03-24
I have literally been following the prices of HDTV's for about a year now, and there is no better time for an upgrade! Samsung just released their new "C" series, and somehow they are remarkably less expensive than their pre-existing models! The majority of the websites are selling this HDTV for $800+, Amazon's lower-than-low price is less than the rest of the market. I purchased it here on Amazon, and received my HDTV in 5 days (could have been 4 days, but I had school all day). CEVA did the shipping for my HDTV, which I was wary at first because I have only dealt with UPS and Fedex. However, CEVA provided excellent customer service as they did contact me and I verbally specified a delivery time. Packaging was very efficient, and surprisingly light too!

For those who prefer using TV stands, you do have to assemble it on your own. Extremely easy to assemble though! All it took was 9 screws (already in the box) and I recommend using a power-screwdriver. Directions said it required two people, I did it solo! I was just eager to hook up my PS3 via HDMI cable and experience the wonderful world of 1080P.

Okay, now for the specifics and why this HDTV deserves a spot in your living room - As I mentioned before, right up to my purchase I extensively followed the quality and price of several HDTVs. The Samsungs 530, 550, 630, 650. The Samsung 630 is the best deal for your money, here's why: The 5 series is less expensive, but only offers refresh times of 60Hz as compared to the 630 which is 120Hz. This is a big difference, and means that your HDTV with 120Hz displays at least twice as many frames-per-second which makes movies, not only sports, very fluid and more realistic. Another difference is the response time, where as the 5 series has a 6ms response time, the 6 series has a 4ms response time. And if you are a gamer, a difference of 2ms can make a big difference. So why the Samsung 630 and not the 650? The only difference now is the contrast ratio. The 630 comes with a 80,000:1 contrast ratio which in my opinion, still creates an extraordinary depth to the display. TV contrast ratio's are starting to become stable around the 70,000 - 100,000 range (or much higher for LEDs). Whereas, 3 years ago the highest was around 10,000 but kept constantly rising. So this HDTV is very much future proof. Yes, the 650 has a higher contrast ratio, but is it worth the extra $200 something dollars?

All in all, if you're not worried about price, go all out and purchase a LED HDTV. But if you want to shop smart, this HDTV is the way to go.

I did a lot of research for TV's in this price range. I've bought a few plasmas and LCD's previously, and this TV blows them all away. This is a great price point, size and brand name TV. You can't go wrong really, you will most certainly be satisfied. The 120hz setting on Clear works best, otherwise gives your TV content a weird soap opera look, so either set it to Clear or turn it off. This LCD works great with a PS3 also, and supports 1080p/24hz resolution, so when you watch blurays, the picture is crystal clear. If you experience any input lag when playing games (delay from button press to action on screen), try setting the source name of your PS3 to PC, it seems to fix that issue pretty well.
The sound on this TV is very robust and clear, although when watching blurays I have to turn it up to hear dialogs, which then makes action sequences really loud, but it's not a big deal.
The design of this TV is just awesome. It has the glass bezel and gloss table top, definitely one of the best looking TV's that I've ever seen. The stand also swivels, which is something every TV should have, but usually don't.
The remote works well, and is very sturdy. The onscreen menus are very clear and even provide descriptions to most of the settings so you don't need to try and figure out what certain settings do.
Its a pretty thin and light panel too, so if your mounting it, it should stay pretty flat on the wall.
I've got nothing but positives to say about this set, its worth every penny, and I'm usually very critical about electronics, but I'd recommend this LCD to anyone. It doesn't look that great out of the box, but after a week of playing with the color settings, I think the picture has been perfected.

UPDATE
Here are my picture settings for anyone that needs a little help getting started
Mode: Standard
Backlight: 14
Contrast: 80
Brightness: 40
Sharpness: 20
Color: 51
Tint: G48/R52
Eco Solution: all off
Edge Enhancement: off
Digital Noise Filter: Low (though I'm sure auto is about the same)
MPEG Noise: Low
Color Tone: Normal (some people seem to like the Warm settings)
Auto Motion Plus 120HZ: Clear (though some people might like this more OFF)

If you have any adjustments to these, let me know

The Samsung LN40C630, Definitely worth it!
For being my first HDTV, I am more than happy with my purchase. I was debating for months to get the LN40B630, but the price didn't come back down to below $800. Searching Amazon, I saw this year's model for less than last year's model, so I decided it was time to get one. I'm more than impressed by what this TV can do: already I have hooked my PS3 and DVD player up to it. The visuals are absoulutley outstanding -- I feel like I'm actually there. Reading reviews from last year's model, I saw negative comments about sound quality; this year's model, in my opinion, exceeds expectations.

Amazon had this delivered to me in under a week with super saver shipping -- I couldn't ask for better. Out of the box the stand was easy to install: just slip the TV over the guide stand, screw in, and you're good to go. Setup up was easy; the only thing I have an issue with so far is that you can't go directly to a different source/input unless the TV is picking up a signal from the device. Starting up other equipment and then having to select the input again is a bit annoying because you miss the start up unless you leave it on that input. Not sure if I've calibrated it right though, at this point, it seems fine and looks fantastic with some of the default settings. The manual isn't very informative in setting most of the options; still being new to HDTV's, I have to look up guides on how to optimize it for different viewing situations.

I can't say for sure if this TV is better than all the rest or how it matches up, but side to side at electronic stores it had the best picture in mine and my spouse's opinions. The Allshare feature is also a nice addition: I am able to stream files from my network devices on to the TV with only having to run an ethernet cord to the router. In conclusion, I beleive this TV will be more then enough for at least the next 3 years until I consider an upgrade, and I mean a BIGGER upgrade ^.^ Thanks Samsung!

Up until two weeks ago, I loved this TV. I upgraded from a 32 inch non-HD/non-flat screen TV. The picture quality is wonderful, the sound was really good, but I hooked it up to a Yamaha receiver anyway.

Here's what happened. A little over two weeks ago we had been watching the TV, and then left to go outside to do some yard work. After dinner we decided to watch a movie so I turned on the TV. Nothing. Usually when a Samsung TV is off, there is a small red light. When you turn it on, the picture emerges and the little red light goes off. No red light. I unplugged the TV from the power supply and plugged it directly into an outlet (the DVD was on the same power strip and was working). Then I took the power cord off and went into the kitchen and plugged it into the little Samsung TV in there. Worked great. Dang. I pulled out the TV information and the TV was still under warranty. I called Samsung.

After just a few seconds on hold a real person answered and I explained the dead power supply problem. She told me somebody would call me in three to five working days to arrange for the repair. WHAT? Three to five days just to talk to somebody to schedule a repair???? NINE days later somebody finally called and said that my 'ticket' would be sent to troubleshooting. WHAT? After nine days, still no appointment for repair???? On day twelve I got a call from a repair guy from a local business contracted to do the repair, and he asked me if the part, the power supply, had come yet. WHAT? What part? I called Samsung again and they gave me the number of GURU, the company they contract to do their repairs, and the company that subcontracts to other local repair services. I now realize that I'm twice-removed from Samsung and NOBODY is coordinating this repair but ME.

I call GURU again after two weeks, and the part has not yet been ordered!!!!! Two weeks after my initial call and the part isn't ordered yet???? WHY NOT? Nobody knew why it wasn't ordered by GURU so they immediately blamed Samsung. Now I'm thinking Samsung is stalling until the warranty runs out, which will happen in about two weeks. Why in the world would there have to be so many layers of uncoordinated mayhem to do a simple swap of a power supply? I'm guessing sometime within the next month or two somebody will fix this TV, and I'm guessing it will be about a 15 minute job.

When the TV worked we loved it. The picture quality was great and the sound was pretty good as well. It has nice features that were pretty easy to figure out and setup. However, would I buy another one? Probably not.

"I'm an everyday user, i.e. NOT a technophile. I did some research before buying, but at the end of the day, I wanted something I could enjoy without spending a fortune, and I'm happy with what we got. Some tips on buying your TV, whether this one or another:
1) 120 Hz refresh rate -- great for future-proofing, but realize that your cable box may not yet transmit in anything faster than 60 Hz. I don't know if this is different for satellite or antenna transmissions. Also, make sure you buy an appropriate HDMI cable that supports 120 Hz...this should be listed on the package. (Although it may not be needed now, it will be when the cable boxes update again.)
2) 1080p -- crystal-clear picture when watching 720p or 1080i programming (nothing on cable is shot in 1080p yet) or 1080p Blu-Ray video. The picture is almost kind of eerie at first, sort of like a soap opera-type appearance, which can be unusual if you're not used to it. I adjusted to it quickly, but it took my wife some time. In the store, ask them to show you something on the airwaves in full HD, or have them run a standard DVD if you think you'll be watching that some via your Blu-Ray player. It is definitely an adjustment.
3) Sound -- always a knock on TVs, though for my purposes, it's fine (it's in our living room, not our media room). I really like the "night" option for the sound; it keeps the sounds from ebbing-and-flowing as dramatically, i.e. from conversation to a car chase, which is nice when you have kids in bed.
4) Computer connectivity -- I have a laptop with HDMI output, so we have connected that the TV and watched something streaming from websites. You can pay extra for "internet connectivity" applications like Netflix, Blockbuster, etc., though since we already had that with our Blu-Ray, we didn't duplicate with the TV. The easy computer connectivity is a nice feature."

The Good:
*Vibrant colors--of which ancient, grunting, CRT-watching man could only dream.
*HD content is displayed so realistically I'll quit my job and live under a bridge to watch TV all day.
*Even standard-def shows look quite good on this set, like super models only five or ten years past their prime.
*Black levels are significantly deeper than I would have expected based on all the online whinging about edge-lit LED screens (e.g., "Give me local dimming, or give me death!").
*Supa-thin profile makes the compact fluorescent "flat" panels look McDonald's chubby.

The Tolerable:
*Crowded buttons on the remote, which I hardly use in favor of the cable company's universal (or maybe no more than planetary) remote. I'll only pick up the Samsung remote on occasion to adjust advanced settings, but when I do, I often push an unintended button.
*Very slight edge-lit brightness on black borders. Much of what's on TV will fill the screen, so you won't even have the opportunity to notice the effect. Really, it's not that bad--I've seen far worse light leakage while watching movies on my 2007 alum iMac.

The Tolerated:
*There's only one thing that bugs me a bit, and it's not a deal breaker. (Besides, I already bought the TV, so the deal has been, well. . . concluded, if you must.) When the screen is mostly black and only a small graphic is displayed somewhere, the LEDs go a bit dim--you can actually see, over a fraction of a second, the light levels drop. I'm assuming that the TV was set up this way so that the LEDs wouldn't be leaking ghostly light on a largely black screen. I've fussed with the settings, but I can't make this effect go away. I haven't yet fully explored all the setting menus, so I just might hit pay dirt soon, or maybe Samsung will nix that effect with a firmware update. At any rate, whatever text is dimmed is still very legible, and when the next screen-filling scene pops up, the LEDs power up without any detectable delay so that thereafter the screen's as bright as it should be. No biggie--it's not enough of a problem for me to scratch a star off the rating.

The Tweakable:
*Turning off motion smoothing is not difficult under most circumstances; indeed, some content begs to be smooved, e.g., sports and competitive cooking shows. But when I first plugged in a movie via the USB drive, I got motion smooving by default and wanted none of it. Whenever I pushed the remote's "Menu" button, I ended on a screen far, far away from the USB drive's content, and ended up adjusting the picture settings for the cable feed and not the target movie on the USB drive. I was bedeviled awhile, but a bit of snooping around the owner's manual led to this minor discovery: by pressing the "Tools" button on the Samsung remote, I could enter a submenu that let me turn off the smooving effect without leaving the movie. Cheap soap opera video effect, begone!

Conclusion:
The picture is what matters most, and this TV's output makes my jaw drop to the floor. Which is rather fortuitous, because I need something down there to catch my eyeballs.

I've purchased two of these TVs from Amazon.com, and I've had to return them both due to problems. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I will not be purchasing another Samsung TV. Thankfully, Amazon's service department was fantastic through the entire ordeal.

For the first TV, within the first few hours of use I noticed that the left side of the screen was darker than the right side, and that it was also flickering occasionally. I called Samsung tech support, and I was very unhappy with their service. First, when they asked for the model # of the TV, they asked me to confirm it several times because this particular model was not in their system. I realize this is a new model, but not having any record whatsoever of my particular TV model was not confidence inspiring. After walking through a series of troubleshooting steps, they tried to prematurely pin the source of the problem on my cable box. Samsung support said the dark left side of the screen was caused by my cable box, and this was before we tried the "test image" under the "diagnostic" section of the TV menu, which also showed the problem, clearly demonstrating that the problem was in the TV itself and not related to anything connected to it. After they finally acknowledged that there was a problem in the TV they arranged for a local repair shop to contact me. They said it would be 24-48 hours before I was contacted. No thanks. This brand new TV was going back. I'm not waiting for days for service contact and further days or weeks for a 'repair' of a brand new $1400 TV.

Amazon's service folks were great we worked it out so that a new TV would be delivered, and the old defective TV would be picked up, all in one go.

The second TV also had a problem. The TV 'creaked' or 'popped' or 'clicked' about every 3-5 minutes when the TV was on, and would continue this for several hours after turned off. I'm not sure if it was the plastic body making noise due to heat, or something electronic inside the TV, but it was far too loud and happened far too often to be acceptable. At best, it was distracting when watching TV, and at worst it was indicative that something was wrong inside the TV (try googling: "samsung TV clicking"). I did confirm that this was definitely the TV, by removing and unplugging all other components, and noting that the behavior still did continue.

So again, I contacted Amazon's service folks to arrange a return. This time I did not order a replacement. There was no charge to me on any of the shipping in either direction since the TV was considered defective.

For the short while I had this TV, here are some of the things I noticed about it:

1.The 120MHz Auto Motion Plus option defaults to "standard". This makes the picture look real, "too real" almost (I've seen people describe this as the "soap opera effect"). This might be OK for sports but I preferred this option to be off for normal movie / TV show watching. Try disabling this feature first if you think the picture looks "strange".

2.The TV has an ambient light sensor which lowers the brightness of the picture automatically when the ambient light is low (e.g. in a living room with lights off). I found that the TV picture got way too dark when the lights were turned off in the room. After some investigation, I discovered that you can set the amount of dimming that occurs when this option kicks in. This is under the "Eco Sensor" option. It defaulted to maximum dimming, which made the picture totally unsuitable for viewing (shadows and darker parts of the image were completely blacked out). I adjusted this so that it did dim, just not as much, and then it was OK. So if you find that your TV is too dark when the room is dark, but OK when the room is well lit, then check this option.

3.The TV appeared to be inconsistent in holding it's settings after losing power. For example, every time the power went out, or the TV was unplugged, I had to manually re-set the options I've described above (Auto Motion Plus and Eco Option dimming level). Oddly, sometimes, the TV would retain it's settings. Not sure if I got a lemon or what but this was very frustrating as it would take a few minutes to reset these things manually with the remote.

[*** This was user-error, not a problem with the TV - see "UPDATE (Jun 2 2010)" at the bottom of this review ***]

4.I was not particularly pleased with the quality of the stand. It looked nice, but for the two TVs I had I found that neither was level when sitting on the stand. The first one tilted to the left and the second one tilted to the right (just to be clear - both were on the exact same level surface, so I'm sure the problem was the TV stand itself). The TV stand is not adjustable, so there's no real way to deal with this.

5.Otherwise, this is a good looking TV, it is ultra-thin, and very sleek. Unfortunately, for me, the quality was not up to par.

UPDATE (May 1 2010): Against my better judgment I decided to give Samsung one more chance, because I definitely like the look of their TVs over the other brands. So I did purchase a third Samsung TV (again from Amazon.com), but I got the "traditional" LCD model that is not LED backlit (Samsung LN46C630) rather than this same LED model (Samsung UN46C6300). So far here is what I think about the traditional LCD model replacing the LED version that I initially purchased:

- I've had no problem with the display, or with the TV clicking/creaking/popping.

- I'd be hard pressed to see any noticeable degradation in picture quality in going from the LED backlit LCD, to the regular LCD model. The only think I can notice is that black screens are "light", as is common for traditional LCD screens. Unless you are a videophile this makes no practical difference when watching everyday TV, movies, etc. This is still a 1080p HDTV and let me assure you the image quality still looks fantastic.

- The only real, noticeable disadvantage I can find to the traditional LCD vs the LED model is that it is thicker (the LED model was ultra-thin). Having said that, the thicker body of the traditional LCD model feels much sturdier and more solid than the LED model. The LED model creaked and popped when moving it around and this one does not. Obviously the thinner LED would look better on the way (with a low-profile mount), but this LCD version still looks nice.

- I know the traditional LCD consumes more power than the LED, but given the significantly cheaper price I can live with that, and I doubt the difference is significant enough to make any real dent in the energy bill.

- The menu system / firmware appears to be identical between the two models.

- I had to adjust the Auto Motion Plus and Eco Sensor options for this TV just like I did for the LED model (see above).

- This model, like my LED model, came with the "Contrast" setting maxed out to '100' by default. I needed to town this down.

- The stand is different, and mounts to the TV in a different way than the LED model. My new traditional LCD model is perfectly level, unlike the two LED models I had.

- Oh yeah, the traditional LCD model is about $400-500 cheaper than the LED model.

I'd strongly suggest that anyone looking at the Samsung UN46C6300 LED model strongly consider the less expensive Samsung LN46C630 traditional LCD model. For roughly $500 less, I've got a better built TV, and I can live without the ultra-slim frame.

UPDATE (Jun 2 2010): I'd like to clarify that the #3 issue I reported above about the TV not holding it's settings after losing power is incorrect. I have just discovered that each source input (i.e. each HDMI input) has it's own unique settings. I was not aware of this originally. I think what originally happened is that I set HDMI input #1 (Cable box) to put the contrast down to 50, and then was still seeing a contrast setting of 100, but on the HDMI input #2 (BD player). The only explanation I had for this was loss of power, and I think I was wrong. So, in summary, there was probably no problem with this particular aspect of the TV, and it's up to the user to town down the contrast / auto motion plus / etc features for *every* source input that they use. As mentioned above I now have the LN46C630 model with a similar menu/firmware system, and it holds its settings just fine through power-outages. I hope this is helpful to other users.

Amazing picture. Sound not so great as tiny speakers aim down from the bottom ridge of tv. I cant believe how thin the television is and how bright the picture is. It plays most everything I've thrown at it in perfect color and very little pixelation. No warm up time like Standard LED TVs and much easier to watch. I highly recommend this TV. If you're going to buy an LCD television...make sure it is backlit with LEDs. Samsungs out-perform all the other brands.

We purchased the TV from Amazon. A few years ago I would never have ordered something this expensive and fragile from a mail order but after years of buying from Amazon I've come to believe there is nothing they can't sell online well. The first of our TVs did come damaged, but guess what- not only didn't Amazon wait to receive the return before shipping out a replacement, there had been a price drop since I ordered the TV and they gave me a refund for the difference! Now that is good service.
The second time the TV arrived pristine and the only assembly required is the stand and inserting the cables. The stand is very nice too. We have been very happy with the bright crisp picture, we play alot of XBox 360 first person shooters which require a fast refresh rate and this TV does very well especially in game mode. We watch SD TV, DVDs through the XBox360 and instantly stream movies from netflix all of which look good on the TV. The menu and programming is very intuitive.

I bought this TV because it was about 200 dollars cheaper on here that it was at Sams Club. I bought this with the free shipping from Amazon and it came actually just as fast as regular shipping. Sharp image, and it seems to make my plain DVD player(not blu-ray or up-converting DVD, just the old ones) seem better. Its got some engine that smooths out the picture. The TV is super thin too. Its definitely worth the price in my opinion.

But the built-in-speaker kinda sucks in default mode. So you gonna have to go into sound options and adjust the equalizer and the sound mode to get a really good sound from the TV without a home theater. After that man its pretty good. Gots alot of HDMI ports. You can plug up almost anything to it to. Its got a lot of different connections.

Great TV for the price
This TV is quite impressive, especially for the money. There are plenty of inputs, many of which are conveniently located on the side of the panel. As far as the picture goes, the color is fantastic, and the contrast is pretty good as well. Where this TV falls short is the uneven back-lighting. In a low light setting watching a dark scene, you can see portions of the screen are brighter than others, which can be annoying at best and distracting at worst. Aside from that, I have no complaints with the television. Were money no object, I'm sure the Proscan would rate lower, however the value you get out of this TV for the price is hard to match. It is a very fine budget LCD HDTV.

I bought this for my workout room and for the money it is excellent. It was easy to set up and the picture quality is very good. I have a $3500 1080p TV in my main room and the picture quality is only somewhat better. For the price this thing fully delivers. We looked locally at TV's and couldn't even get a 720p for this price.

If you are going to nit pick or expect a $1000+ TV, then get your head screwed on right, it is not a high end TV but it is definitely not crap and the thing I really like about it is I have it up a little higher so I can see it to work out with but I can even see the picture and colors true when I'm on the floor stretching.

+ Amazon prime $3.99 overnight shipping to my door. The local store couldn't beat that if they tried.

Great TV at a Great Price
Bought this TV when it was on sale at costco for $399. Excellent picture quality, adequate inputs (3x hdmi, 2x component, 1x composite/s-video), and a nice sound system. It is also very slim in depth compared to other non-ultraslim flat screens.

Why I wouldn't give this tv 4-stars:

No USB input, second component input, or L/R audio output (you will have to buy a Y-audio cable for audio output).

When there is no sound on an input the speakers make this small popping noise. I don't know why that is. To accommodate the noise, I put the tv on mute and the popping stops.

Another shortcoming is the remote control range. It does not work if it is more than a 30-degree angle from the receiver or not at the same vertical level.

Overall, it is a great tv for a great price.

Great TV For The Bedroom.

Set your expectations realistically folks. At this price range you're not gonna get a reference television. I just purchased this set for my bedroom and am very happy with it. My cable company signal sucks (Comcast) but once I fiddled with the parameters, I think I have obtained a pretty decent picture within reason for this price range. 4 stars relative to the price range.

Pros: Bang for the buck. This is the strongest point.
         Lot's of connections.
Surprisingly good sound with LOUD volume.
Lot's of options to adjust the picture (good thing, because your gonna have too).
HDTV signals can look magical (obviously much of this depends on the broadcast signal).

Cons: Has some difficulty with black resolution...some black images look like ink stains from an underwater squid. This is the worst point.
Like many LCD's, it has a hot picture that can burn the eyes over time. Get a backlight.
Mediocre picture straight out of the box. You are going to have to adjust the parameters and fiddle with the sharpness/digital noise
          reduction.
Colors too florid out of the box. Some of the reds look pinkish. Some of the greens look like an Irish haze. Tint rather Wizard of Oz-ish.
          Delay between channels when switching.
          Generic remote.

PURE GARBAGE. LASTED SIX HOURS BEFORE IT FAILED
Lasted six hours before it failed to power on any longer. Poor a/v input, output design Small remote with tiny buttons. Ahh, the Hell with all that. It lasted six hours and then just died. I will not bother with anymore Proscan Products. Spend another 100 bucks and purchase from a big name maker.Apparently this has happened to quite a few other owners. I was not expecting high end HDTV for the price of the unit, but I certainly was expecting more then a six hour life span.On a positive note. Amazon made returning it a breeze. They sent UPS with a call tag the day after delivery and it was on its way back to them.I will now spend an extra 250 bucks and purchase a quality product from Samsung , LG, Sony, Panasonic. I must have been nuts to think this thing was going to be any good for the ridiculous low price Every time I go very low end this is what happens.I dont blame Proscan or Amazon I blame myself for being such a chump

This is a very nicely built television.

Plenty of hookups, which were easy to reach.

The Anyconnect (which allows one device to control another like Sony's Bravia, but for Samsung) works well. It's nothing super, but it works.

You can save favorite channels, easily and quickly switch to other inputs, play mp3s and jpgs via USB, ... ya know, all that stuff that you expect from a very nice TV. It's not going to surprise you much. The video didn't need any adjustment for me, out of the box, but there were a lot of options for tweaking it.

Audio was average, not impressive, but I'm used to a nice surround system (which I promptly hooked up). One reason Anyconnect is nice is that I can have the TV output over the surround sound (an Anyconnect system) very easily.

Oh, and the dang stand swivels. It's a heavy-ish stand, too. Another commenter had a problem 'drilling' the stand, but I found this wasn't an issue. I found the build quality to be the best I've ever seen on a TV.

The picture, though, of course, is what matters most. And this TV has an amazing picture. Clear and beautiful. The colors stand out, the contrast is strong, the blacks look black.

The statistic that is weak on this TV is its slow refresh rate (the 60hz). I actually prefer this TV over ones that have a higher refresh rate. Movies look more like the cinema this way. In fact, many movies are shown in theater at merely 24 hz. Have you ever noticed that a movie or TV show looks subtly like a camcorder, behind the scenes tape, or a Soup Opera? This effect is often the result of a high refresh rate, and it reduces the mental blur from frame to frame. I suspect newer TVs actually let you reduce the refresh rate, because many find a high refresh to be less appealing. But this way I get a cheaper TV that I think actually looks much better. Before you spend hundreds more on a 2D set with extremely high refresh rate, test it out and see what you like better. Make sure the media actually supports the high refresh rate. You may find this cheaper set is as good, or perhaps better if you're like me.

I found no flaws with this TV whatsoever. It's amazing that such a large and beautiful TV, from what many consider the best brand, is so affordable.

Oh my, this is a beautiful TV. This TV is the first LCD HD TV I've ever bought. I've been watching a 10 yr old JVC CRT set that has served me well. However, it's only 30" and I wanted a larger screen.

I was hesitant to buy an LCD TV since my old CRT is still putting out the sharpest picture around. But after getting the Samsung 46" and hooking it to my cable HD box I can say that I don't regret the purchase. I'm blown away at the quality of the picture.

I also bought a Samsung Blu-Ray player and the quality of movies are unbelievable. I'm sorry I waited until now to go HD.

I highly recommend this TV.

One month update: I was a bit concerned with this TV being only 60Hz since I watch a lot of sports but I have not had any problems at all. Just recently watched almost every match of the World Cup and had no problems whatsoever with blurring or anything. NASCAR is beautiful on this set.

I've got my old CRT set in my bedroom. It looks crappy now, LOL!

For $784 you can't do any better then this TV. Free shipping, no interest financing and no tax. Picture wise; in comparison to my previous Samsung TV (Plasma) for which I paid $1,200 3 years ago it's slightly better. In comparison to other cheaper LCDs such as the Insignia from Best Buy this wins hands down. Blacks are actually black unlike on other cheaper LCDs where they appear to be gray. The automatic "real time" brightness adjustment helps out too when the light changes. I have this TV hooked up to my PS3 for Blu-Ray playback as well as gaming. Furthermore, I used the PC input to hook up my computer; I am extremely happy that, unlike my previous TV it maintains the 16:9 aspect ratio without stretching the screen (before I had to use DVI to HDMI to maintain the aspect ratio using up one of the HDMIs where now I can use the analog [VGA] and it works flawlessly).

Ordered this on July 1st and had it in my hands yesterday (July 11th) so very quick shipping for a freight company! We plugged in in and watched a movie right away and its amazing! Works great and the standard settings it seemed to be shipped with work perfect, no problems what so ever. Very happy with this brand and TV!

Excellent LCD TV
Did a lot of research on TVs before I decided to get this one. Was not excited about the 120hz TVs; do not like the soap opera/camcorder motion. I was debating if I should get the internet options with the apps on the other models, but I have a PS3 so it wasnt worth paying for the extra features. So I got this 60hz LCD and I have no regrets! The picture this TV produces are amazing, especially on Blu Ray. I watched my New Zealand vacation videos on it and it really brings out the colors and makes my video look even more movie like. Avatar looks amazing on it as well. I got it for $640 and worth every dime.

I realize that this is probably a "guy thing" but this remote is the quickest responding remote of any flat screen I've seen. It also has a "favorite" button where you can easily program it to just scan your favorite channels. I got this TV for my mother and was so pleased with it, that I ordered another for myself before they change anything. I'm really happy. I've also bought the Western Digital TV Live device for $119 at Amazon. This allows me to view my digital pictures on my 40" Samsung TV via the inexpensive $2.63 HDMI cable. Wow!

We had a 52" Samsung that we purchased for my mother-in-law. We've watched TV on it for 2 years and are extremely happy with it. For this reason, we decided to stick with Samsung. This 40" TV fits our space perfectly and after comparing a 60hz LCD HDTV side-by-side (playing the exact same nature DVD) with a 120hz, I did not notice any difference. Since the 60hz was about $150 less, I decided on this TV. We are extremely happy with it.

We only watch TV -- we don't do gaming, watch DVDs, nor do we have a Blu-Ray. So, we're pretty basic TV watchers. The picture is excellent from all viewing angles -- no distortion. My girlfriend came over 2 nights ago and wants to order a Samsung for her Mom. I don't think you can go wrong if you are basic TV watchers like us! By the way, I'm not sure if I can say this here but I priced this TV at Walmart for $674.00 online, however, through Amazon, we didn't have to pay any shipping costs nor taxes! Amazon, by far, had the least expensive price over Best Buy, Walmart and any other online merchant. The delivery guys took the TV out of the box, set it up and made sure it did turn on. They were great. Getting it to sync up with Dish TV and the Dish Remote was another matter but 2 phone calls to Dish was all it took. We had it up and running in an hour or so. Excellent buying experience!

I haven't bought a television in 13 years and I wanted to make sure I got one that would last me at least another decade without breaking the bank. I did my homework and waited patiently for a price dip on a Samsung, which all the reviewers say are the best. I picked this one up for just over $600 and I'm so happy with it! Personally, I'm not interested in the technology race--I just want great picture quality and a set that is reliable and easy to operate. That's precisely what this is, with a fair amount of bells and whistles to boot.

The Freight service that Amazon used to deliver the 40 inch Samsung TV was outstanding. They called the day before delivery to confirm their delivery date, then they called on the delivery date to confirm a two hour delivery period. The gentlemen who delivered the TV took it out of the box, set the TV up and disposed of the box. Top notch service. The TV picture and sound quality are outstanding. Couldn't be happier with my purchase; the price, the value for the money and the quality of the television have all met or exceeded my expectations.Samsung LN40C630 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV (Black)

When software meets your TV, watch out
by C. Bongiorno from Seattle, WA on 2010-04-12
Summary:

Great TV -- clear picture, yadayada blah blah. I am new to HDTV so for me, it all looks great. This review isn't about that. This review is about when they begin to mix software functionality with your TV the results aren't always pretty

To start, to say this TV has usability issues is an understatement. The way all the internet tv functionality works is essentially through a kind of user profile. You create this profile and assign a pin to it. It is in this profile that all user name and passwords for the various services you have are stored. Considering how many that might be, this isn't a half-bad idea. But, now it goes down hill.

Entering usernames and passwords is done using the number pad on the remote. This is literally like entering text messages on your cell (T9, repeat press). Except that you can't enter user names like 'r u serious? OMG. Lol' because those won't work. So, yes, you have to enter, for your netflix account 'joe_the_plumber@somethinglong.isp.net' and all those special characters are 5 button presses away -- don't forget the password because this is the best part!

Drum roll: you cannot enter the letter 'z'. That's right folks. 'Z' cannot be entered through any means except using your x-powers. When you press the 'wxyz' button to cycle to 'z' it does: 'w,x,y,w,x,y...' and you wonder WTH? Where is 'z'? So, if your password contains a 'z' the game is up. To be fair though most of the software problems are application specific, but they all have one insanely annoying feature in common.

Go to log into netflix/pandora or any paid service and you get a little message: "please go to [...] and enter this number:" to which you are given a 8 character alpha/numeric code that you must do as they say with. Why does this not do it for me I wonder? Better yet, why do I need this at all? I don't have to register my computer when I watch netflix online. What gives!!!? What gives is some freakish anti-consumer-friendly business agreement between service provider/content provider/tv provider. I am sure it has to do with licensing and IP. I am sure it has to do with lock-in and profits.

Finally, since netflix is what I use most, and I have no better place to put it, let me comment on the app itself: It sucks.

For this netflix application you have an 'instant' queue. When you watch from your PC you never bother with this feature because you usually just play it on-the-spot. Well, queues are nice when you can only have 3 disks out at a time. But these aren't disks. They aren't anything actually. They are iconic representations of data. But, to play any content on your netflix device you must

1) Log into the TV
2) Log into netflix.com
3) add whatever movie is available/you want to your 'instant queue'
4) press the 'internet@' button
5) select netflix app
6) Log on to netflix app.
7) Scan through your queue of 80 movies.
8) Press the center button
9) press it again
10*) if you are watching a series, press it again

Side note: fast forward and reverse do not work like on your dvd player. Press FF and it continues to go until your press the play or stop button (which, btw is THE most inaccessible button on the absolute bottom of the remote)

But, this service/app combo is so convenient it's narcotic. Need a quick Thomas the tank Engine for an antsy 2 year old? BANG! Done! Need a TV series up in a hurry for an antsy wife? BANG! Done!

The YouTube app is equally handicapped but convenient.

Seriously, if Apple would work with content providers and stick a dvd drive in their Apply TV the world could be a great place.

Oh, did I mention the TV sometimes 'crashes'?

Got this baby a little cheaper about a month ago -- Amazon's 2 year interest free promo made me jump.

I find myself to be a tech geek and this TV filled my needs. WMP sharing on networked computers works well with the built-in media player the TV has. As long as it has an avi extension, it will show up (and play). I watched a 1080p MKV that just needed the mkv extension changed to avi. Quality was stunning. Have not encountered anything that the media player can't play.

I noticed an update for the TV yesterday, which finally fixed the Netflix and other Internet@TV stuff. Netflix streaming works well for anyone familiar with the way it works.

ToC is barely noticeable (but who cares really).

my setup:

Samsung 7.1 (interacts with TV)

XBOX 360
UVERSE HD
HTPC

using HDMI/Optical only

Happy buyer!

TV is great - Netflix not working
The TV itself is great: picture quality, sound, design.

BUT: If you are thinking about buying this particular model because of its internet features: Think twice. Until today (06/01/2010) I have not been able to play a single movie from Netflix. Also the most recent update did not resolve this issue. I can connect to Netflix and even see my Instant Queue, but the TV freezes when I select a movie to watch. I have to unplug the power to make the TV usable again. Yes, just like a Windows computer.

Since I wanted to buy a Blu-Ray player anyway, I now bought an LG-BD550 which is actually able to stream Netflix properly. With the combination of TV and Blu-Ray player I am happy now - except that I have to use 2 remote controls to watch a streamed movie from Netflix.

So my advice is... if you want to stream Netflix from this TV, save the extra bucks on the internet feature from Samsung and buy the model without it.

Very good TV with typical LCD shortcomings
Got this, my first HDTV, for $749 total delivered. Seems like a great deal. Has the AA01 panel:

PROS: Very good HD picture, which becomes stunning with good source material (after calibrating the picture); excellent SD picture (better than the good CRT TV it replaced); tons of controls for picture calibration; streaming Netflix is great, youtube app is fun too; ethernet makes upgrading firmware and internet apps very easy; lots of connectivity; easy to set up; light; swivel stand works well; power efficient; doesn't get hot; no noise or buzz; no dead or stuck pixels; has analog audio out jack (important for old A/V receivers); functions as an outstanding computer monitor (with DVI-to-HDMI cable); glossy screen helps picture and repels dust; can't even notice the red "Touch of Color" design.

CONS: Though black levels are generally very good, when the screen and room are both dark you can see some flashlighting around the corners and some bleedthrough of the backlight; very fast motion on screen will cause brief pixelization and loss of picture clarity (has to be very fast motion -- football and other sports look great); picture quality degrades quickly as you move off-center (though not as much as in some other LCD TVs); requires major picture calibration out of the box (I used settings found in reviews of this TV on the web, tweaked them a bit to preference, and the picture's much better, though it's hard to get it right); most of the current internet apps are useless; the factory preset modes are useless.

Overall it's a very good TV, with a picture that can sometimes be mesmerizing. And I'm glad I paid a bit extra for the C650's internet connectivity and glossy screen. But my main complaints - backlight bleedthrough, motion pixelization and off-center picture quality - lead me to believe that my next TV might be a plasma. Sound is adequate, neither a pro or con really. Four stars.

Looked at many LCD TV's and the picture quality on a Samsung is hard to beat. Controls are easy to use on this set and hooking it up to a standard DVD player with HDMI cable produces a Movie theater picture response. Also if you subscribe to Cable and have an HD Cable Box...hook up with an HDMI cable and the picture is outstanding...Amazon took over a week for delivery (from TX)...shipping company was great in keeping me informed on exact delivery date....when it arrived the delivery driver brought it in, unpacked it, and made sure it was working....The best part was the overall cost...buying it thru Amazon saved me over $200 from the regular store price, and also had free shipping and no tax...so it was a savings all around.

Be cautious with the UNC Models
This isn't going to be a full videophile review; only a word of caution. After purchasing this TV, on the second day, the menu would pop up and try to change to component or another mode (like store demo mode) or it would change the viewing settings from "normal" to the "spanish soap opera" looking one while we were watching TV.
The bottom right of the screen has a red light that indicates that the remote is being used and it was constantly flashing during the times it was acting possessed or someone was inadvertently sitting on the remote. After taking out the batteries on the remote, it continued. In fact, it got so bad that we couldn't do anything with the TV, we couldn't even turn it off- we had to unplug it for a bit. Then it would be ok for a short while.
After calling Samsung, they directed us to a local TV repair place. We described the problem and they contacted Samsung. The TV repair place didn't even bother coming out, they wanted to order the part that was necessary to fix it.

Because of this issue and the flashlighting in the corners of the screen, we decided to return it. I honestly didn't want a TV that had to be worked on after the second day. The TV repair place was really pressing us to get it fixed, but Amazon said they would not take it back if it had any work done on it. So we returned it as is.

We have been waiting for the refund to get the UN46C8000, and I started looking at the reviews and the comments for that one. Apparently, others have been having this problem with the other model as well!

So just be careful. I don't know how well it works after being fixed, but it appears to be a very common problem with this years models.

I own several Samsung products and have been pleased with each one. I have also read of the horror stories of working with Samsung customer support and must say in my case all were proved false. I did my homework and was waffling between the UN46C7000 and the UN46C6300, thought for the extra money the 7000, 3D Blu-Ray Player and starter kit would be a fun addition to the house. The TV showed up as promised on the day I arranged, eagerly put it all together, inserted the 3D movie Monsters vs Aliens...it didn't work. Just got a blured image. What to do? My first thought was to return it to Amazon and start all over. But, decided to give Samsung a chance to correct the problem. The TV worked fine in 2D it just lacked the 3D and wow what a picture, it truly is crystal clear. The Blu-Ray disk player (BD-C6900) is awesome as well, a little pricey, but fast! Well the call to customer service went well, started with the standard card flipping problem solver who quickly passed me to technical support. He had me run through a battery of problem solving checks and decided a visit from a technician was necessary. Got the call the following day for a visit the next day and get this "When it was convenient for me"! I'm a teacher so it's not really easy to up and take a day for the usual "I'll be there between Noon and 7:00" appointment. He showed up at 5:00 ran through a series of tests, no not much different than the one's I ran through with the phone tech, but I guess he had to confirm the previous tests. Still no 3D. He needed to make contact with Samsung about his findings. Early the next week he returned, (yes, again when convenient) and found that I had at best a failed IR transciever or worse a failed main board. Got a call Monday of the next week that parts were ordered and an appointment was made for Thursday to make the repair. The tech showed up again and I now have 3D. So from beginning to end we waited a little more than 4 weeks to have the 3D but wow, it really is impressive. Yep, I know it's a gimmick and there are few movies to support the feature but Blu-Ray movies and HD television look spectacular and I would recommend the UN46C7000 on that alone. If I were to have one wish granted it would be to include built-in Wi-Fi instead of the add on stick, come on Samsung I paid a premium for this TV!

If I had it to do all over would I buy this television again? Yes, but I had a working 2D television with a broken 3D feature. If the TV had shown up totally broken I might had a more negative review. Oh and at the advice of the technician I extended the warranty 2 years, just to be on the safe side.

Great picture. Turn off the Auto Motion Plus
Fantastic picture quality! Easy to set up and use. Shippers were great, unpacked the TV and made sure it worked before they left. The only complaint is I spent my 1st whole night wondering why all my shows looked the Soap Operas. Turns out this is caused by Samsung "Auto Motion Plus" feature that adds extra calculated frames to the video stream. Turning this off made the picture look as I expected (i.e. Law and Order's proper gritty/jerky camera motion when the detectives are on the street). When this mode is off the tv is still running at 240Hz, but shows the same frames unaltered over and over just like the movie theater does rather than trying to "make stuff up" in between frames. I now only turn on the "Auto Motion Plus" when watching hockey.

Got this set a week ago, its the third Samsung LED in the house (but the first 3D). Hung it on the wall, and immediately noticed a red line stretching from the top of the picture to the bottom, regardless of which input you use. Obviously not pleased, but I understand these things can happen. I've read the horror stories about Samsung customer service. I just called to log my issue. So far, so good. Ignoring the red line for a moment, the picture quality is excellent. The set is incredibly thin and light. Assuming the outcome of the customer service experience is favorable, this rating will go up to 5.

I have had my tv for 1 week now, and have no complaints with this product. I upraded from a Sony rear projection, and the difference is incredible. I did LOTS of research and waffling before finally settling on this TV. I was debating between the Sony XBR9, Samsung UN46C6500 and the UN46C7000. I finally settled on this set because of the brightness, picture quality and a bit of future-proofing with the 3D feature. I have read several reviews saying that the sound is poor, which is maybe going too far. The sound is better than you SHOULD expect from a TV this thin. And honestly, most people buying a $2K+ tv are using a home theater of some sort anyway. Buy this TV for picture clarity and quality. The blacks are very "inky" and the whites are ultra-white. There are lots of audio and video adjustments on the TV allowing you to fine tune if you want to. The remote seems very high quality also. Brushed stainless look with backlighting is as aestetically pleasing as any remote I have seen. As others have noted, dont plan on using the wifi adaptor (sold seperate) with an Apple Airport router, but the wired ethernet works fine for the apps and widgets, which work well. I would rate the 3D higher, but there is almost no content available at this time. There is only 1 movie available at retail, and less than 5 currently slated for release this year. To make matters worse, the various 3D manufacturers are trying to get exclusive bundle rights to the few movies that are rumored for release (panasonic and Avatar, Sony and Alice and Wonderland, etc). I would definately reccomend this to a friend, and have enjoyed the 3D movies that I have watched (Monsters vs Aliens & Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs). Go for it!
